Tennessee is committed to helping your family be as healthy as possible. As part of that effort, healthcare professionals in selected counties are doing a special screening of school children. This screening is called a Body Mass Index (BMI). BMI looks at a child’s age, height and weight to figure out if they are likely to develop health problems in the future.

If your child’s BMI score shows that he or she is, or is at risk for becoming, overweight or obese, you will get a letter from health officials. The letter will tell you your child’s BMI score and give you information on how to help you deal with your child’s weight and health issues. Many resources are available in your area to answer your questions, meet with you, and work with you on your situation.

Our children are our future. As parents of that future, your willingness to help your child and your family become healthier is very important. Together, we can help make Tennessee’s children and families healthier!

This website is designed to help you help your child and family be as healthy as they can be.
