Sometimes it can be hard to maintain our healthy habits and our weight during the holiday season with all the events, parties, and special dinners! Here are a few strategies to keep you on track this year.

  • Don't "save" your calories/appetite for the party. If you do,  you are setting yourself to overeat on high-calorie treats. Instead, eat balanced meals throughout the day, and then have a smart snack-one that contains both protein and complex carbohydrate-right before the party. Some smart snack examples are: a small apple and piece of string cheese, 2 tbsp of raisins with 1/4 cup almonds, or hummus and carrot sticks.
  • Bring a healthy option. Chances are you are not the only person wanting to stay on track with your healthy habits this holiday season. So bring a healthier holiday treat to the party and give the gift of health to everyone! Try slicing red and green bell peppers and making a dip with a ranch dressing packet and 16oz. nonfat plain greek style yogurt to make a festive party tray. Or bring sliced starfruit as a festive alternative to the traditional Christmas cookie.
  • Be Smart with Your Sipping. Holiday cocktails and eggnog can have up to 400 calories per serving with very little nutrition! Instead enjoy sparkling water with a splash of 100% juice, low-fat milk, coffee, or tea.
